A Little Help From Our Friends
Author: Summer
As Shane just posted, we have officially begun our adventure, and I am in charge of the food part of the adventure. It does take time and planning, but once you get organized it actually is easy. I am following simple basic diet rules, which consist mainly of the 5 a day rule. I am concentrating on getting all of us eating 5 Servings of fruit and veggies a day. I am using the book 5 A Day-The Better Health Cookbook by Dr. Elizabeth Pivonka to plan most of our meals for the week.
So, we would love a little help from our friends! Words of encouragement, ideas, recipes, or just joining in on the adventure with us would be great!

Healthy Eating
We started our diet on the 2nd. We are following a diet designed by Summer which consists of lots of fruits, vegetables, protein, and whole grains…and is low in fat, sugar, and processed flour. Healthy Eating was at 80% due to the fact that Summer’s birthday fell during the week and we had two parties. We both splurged at the parties, but ate well at all other meals.
When starting diets in the past, the first week has always been the hardest. This one was seemed easier than most.
Exercise
Begins in week 2.
Planning/Prep
Meal planning, adventure planning, organizing incentives and tracking systems…more on this later.
Adventures
Ok, I fudged the adventures number a little. It was more like a 0.2. We visited the Burgess-Rushing Tennis Center and scoped out the courts. It was closed. The hours are not posted on the website, but being Sunday I was not surprised that they were closed. Why don’t they have their hours posted? Anyway, the courts seem nice. They have good wind screens. In addition, there are some small hills and trees surrounding the courts offering additional protection from the wind.
Welcome to My Life is Adventure
Author: Shane
The hardest part of accomplishing anything is getting started. Showing up is more than half the battle. My Life is Adventure is about showing up. We’ve decided to put ordinary aside and make things happen.
Planning for Adventure 2007 began in early December. It was sparked by frustration with our physical condition and the direction it was headed. We are not new to diet and exercise, but have been challenged when it came to being consistent for extended periods of time.
I narrowed down a list of 10 brainstormed adventure themes based on how interesting and possible they were.
Adventure Themes
- Rock Climbing
- Cycling (Mountain or Road)
SnorklingKayakingParkourSkiing/Snowboarding- Martial Arts
- Running
- Tennis
Backpacking
After narrowing it down, I presented the remaining to Summer. We decided that tennis would be our adventure theme for the beginning of 2007.
